Sew Cozy Chris is
owned by Chris
M. Barlow, a former registered
nurse and long-time sewing fanatic.
At various times in her life, Chris has worked as a seamstress, doing alterations and creating some of her own clothes.
She has worked in high-end department stores such as Nieman-Marcus and Herbergers. From January 2004 until August 2006, Chris was the alterations department for The Buckle, a clothing store that caters to young adults in Champaign, Illinois.
In August 2006, Chris moved with her husband from Illinois to Eugene and decided to open a home-based alterations shop – something she had wanted to do for years. So, after about two months of preparations, Sew Cozy Chris opened in October!
Chris uses industrial strength sewing equipment and the best thread. Her specialty is basic work, such as adjusting lengths on pants. She also will do many other alterations and hemming work, and occasionally will take on a major project.
Basic prices will be readily available. However, estimates given over the phone or by way of an email response are always subject to revision once Chris has met with you and has actually seen what work you are requesting. Major projects, when taken on, will require a minimum of 50 percent down – up front.
When you call Sew Cozy Chris, please do not be offended by being greeted by an answering machine. Chris does not have employees, except for her husband who acts as her business manager on a part-time basis. Your messages will be returned within 24-48 hours. She and her husband travel occasionally, so longer delays maybe possible in getting a response.
If you fill out our on-line query form, try to be specific about what kind of sewing you need done and what kind of material is involved. And if you need a fast turn-around, provide a deadline day. IF your time-urgent request is accepted, there will be an extra “rush charge” added to your bill. MOST jobs are handled first-come, first-served to be fair to all.
